Crown Jewell event to returns to West Virginia for 30th Anniversary
DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TO WVMS
Crown Jewell event to returns to West Virginia for 30th Anniversary Powell, TN; “Take me home country roads” That’s where the 30th annual Dirt Track World Championship is headed. It's going back to West Virginia, the state where it all began. Promoter Carl Short is pleased to announce that the DTWC will be held at the famous "SPEEDPLANT", West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV. Short’s decision to carry the DTWC back to the Speedway that holds the DTWC attendance record wasn’t an easy one. "This was one of the most gut wrenching decisions I have ever had to make" said Short. "Not going back to Lawrenceburg was a decision I really hated to make." " It is an amazing facility and Dave and Kim Rudisell are just great folks. "The weather last year really created havoc with track prep and Dave and Tim Johnson were on the track for like 48 hours straight" "I have never seen anyone work harder in an attempt to have a good racing surface and their dedication proved worthwhile as the racing on Sunday was fantastic". "I am hoping to have the opportunity to work with them again someday" Short said. Carl also had several conversations with Jeff Schrader at KC Raceway. Schrader is going into his second year as owner and promoter of KC. "The DTWC was very successful the 4 years it was held at KC and I have gotten to know Jeff and developed a great respect for him. He has a great love for racing and is just a wonderful human being." In the end one of the big factors was the fact this is the 30th annual DTWC and Short felt it was only fitting that racing's second biggest major event be held in the state where it all started 30 years ago. "Even though it's not the same track, it is as close as you can get to the original location" Short stated. As long as there is dirt track racing, people will be talking about Jim Dunn's incredible Cinderella story and how he won the biggest purse that had ever been paid on dirt. In our tribute to Jim, we are once again going to be having the Jim Dunn Memorial non-qualifiers race along with the modifieds and $50,000 to win DTWC. West Virginia Motor Speedway will reopen this year under the management team of BDS Promotions. Short has worked with BDS the past few seasons with his Hillbilly Hundred and has nothing but praise for the young management team. "Brian Ferrell, Scott Strode and Daniel Patterson did a fantastic job in their promoting of Tyler Co Speedway and I'm sure they will do the same at WVMS" Short stated.
