FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 14, 2007
(HUNTERSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) G.R. Smith and his #22 team invaded the famed
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the first time last weekend for the 37th
Annual 'World 100.' G.R. timed in ninety-third quickest of the 203 entrants
during the qualifying session on Friday evening, September 7. Following a win
by Mother Nature on Saturday, the "Big E" came back to life on Sunday
afternoon, September 9 with heat races, consolation events, and the $40,000 to
win A-Main.
Unfortunately for the Huntersville, North Carolina native, his eighteenth place
heat race finish did not advance him to the B-Main. He was forced to watch the
remainder of the program from the grandstands. You can view complete results
from the prestigious race, which was won by Jimmy Owens, online at
www.eldoraspeedway.com.
“It was good for us to finally make the trip to Eldora and see what it was all
about,” commented Smith this week via telephone. “I just wanted to get some
laps around that place to gain some experience for the future. We were in a
bad situation because we were in an early heat race and once you staged the car
on the concrete, you couldn’t change anything on the car. So, when the track
started blowing off in the first heat, I knew we were in some trouble set-up
wise. Now I know what to expect when we head back there next year.”
The Premier Motorsports team has one lone event on their weekend schedule, as
they are set to travel south to the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania,
Georgia. The O’Reilly Southern Allstars Series and O’Reilly Southern Allstars
East Series will co-sanction a $10,000 to win show on Saturday, September 15.
G.R. had a good run at the Screven oval last year, as he led quite a few laps
before ultimately finishing second to Ray Cook in an OSAS race. You can learn
more about the event tomorrow evening at the Peachtree State speedplant by
accessing www.southern-allstars.com.
G.R. Smith and the Premier Motorsports team would like to thank the following
sponsors for their support this season: Dirt Wheels Performance, Earnest
Construction Management, Giacobbe Trucking, Allstar Performance, American Racer
Tire, Hoosier Racing Tire, Rocket Chassis, Custom Racing Engines, Outlaw Disc
Brakes, Baker Carburetion, Behrent's Performance Warehouse, Big A's Custom
Graphics, Brinn Transmissions, ButlerBuilt Safety Equipment, CV Products, Delph
Communications, Duralite Wheels, Hypercoils, Mike's Custom Tanks, Schaeffers
