(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and the #53 team invaded the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio over the weekend for the 37th Annual 'World 100.' On Friday night, September 7, Ray timed in twenty-third quickest of the 203 cars in attendance in qualifying. Mother Nature would then halt the action on Saturday, but the "Big E" came to life once again on Sunday afternoon, September 9 with heat races, consolation events, and the $40,000 to win 'World 100.'
The Brasstown, North Carolina native transferred into the prestigious Dirt Late Model feature event by virtue of finishing second in his competitive heat race. Ray then rolled off from the inside of the sixth row for the 100-lap A-Main. After pitting several times early in the race, the "Tarheel Tiger" wound up pulling into the infield for good prior to the completion of the 'World 100' and was relegated to a twenty-third place performance. You can view complete results from this year's version of the 'World 100,' which was won by Jimmy Owens, online at www.eldoraspeedway.com!
"It was a pretty good weekend for us at Eldora aside from hitting the wall on my first qualifying lap," commented Cook earlier in the week. "We got everything fixed on the car, made a good second lap, and then got into the show through the heat race. During the feature, I think everyone expected the track to take rubber sometime during the race. We were kind of geared towards that and when the rubber never came, that really shocked me and probably most of the drivers."
The Ray Cook Racing team is slated to travel to the Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, Alabama this coming weekend for a $10,000 to win event. The Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) will sanction the show, which will be highlighted by a 75-lap feature event. Qualifying and heat race action will take place at GVS on Friday night, September 14, while the consolation events and the A-Main are scheduled for Saturday evening.
