County Line Raceway is set to Host it's Inaugural Carolina Steel Block Nationals
September 3, 2011

After being battered by Hurricane Irene, County Line Raceway is making preparations for another storm with some serious horsepower Saturday evening as the raceway Presents “The Inaugural Carolina Steel Block Nationals” powered by J&M Chevrolet. Some of the best Late Model drivers in the Southeast will converge on County Line Raceway’s 3/8ths mile clay oval to vie for a $3,000 first place prize. Drivers making the trek will find some tough competition from County Line’s J&M Chevrolet Late Model Division regulars looking to defend their home turf. The money was on the line in April and it was County Line’s own Neal Sykes out gunning 36 competitors to claim the $3,000 prize. After being absent from competition for nearly a month, “The Sleeper” Neal Sykes will make his return this Saturday. You can rest assure that Team 11s will be locked and loaded for this weekend’s talent filled event. The J&M Chevrolet Late Model Division point’s battle is currently being led by Rocky Mount, N.C. driver “The Gentleman Farmer” James Batten. Batten’s lead is a slim 11 points over “The Wildchild” Damon Kotke. Kotke continues to flex his “Batten Built” muscle as he took the checkers August 20th. James Batten has flexed his own “Batten Built” muscle as he has proven he can run with anyone that drives in the gate. He did just that as he took home the checkers against a stellar field and took home a big payday in last November’s 2nd annual “Race for the Kids” Benefiting Victory Junction Gang Camp. Look for the 21 to be in the hunt for the checkers Saturday night. “The Blazin Beast from the East” Bobby Bottoms will be on the hunt for that 2nd win this season and what a 2nd win it would be to hoist that big check in front of the County Line Crazies! Bottoms who pilots the #47 Rocket Chassis has been lurking in the top 5 in points and continues to chip away at Battens points lead. With 1 feature win this season, Bottoms has been contending at the front for much of the season and will look to put the yellow #47 in victory lane. The driver of the C9 “The Professor” Christian Joyner has been churning out top 5’s this season. Most impressive is the fact that this is Christian’s first year in the J&M Chevrolet Late Model Division. It would be a memorable night for Team C9 to become the Inaugural Champion of this event. Former Track Champion “The Kamikaze Kid” Dustin Mitchell makes his return this weekend to make his bid as champion of this event. After a nasty crash at Cherokee Speedway, Mitchell Motorsports has spent countless hours making repairs to the car in preparation for this event and what better reward for their efforts than to take home the checkers! County Line Raceway is expecting 25-30 of the best Steel Block Late Model teams in the region. The racing action is sure to be as fierce as the drivers that pilot these machines. Other notables for this weekend’s event are “The Closer” Travis Hair, Roger Lucas, Cy Nelm’s Sr., who has 2 feature wins this season. Trevor Peoples, “Young Buck” Christian Thomas, Spencer Liggon, Britches Liles, Daulton Wilson, Ronnie Boykin, “The Hurricane” Steve Blackburn, Raymond Brown, Shaun Harrell, Ray “The Rock” Tucker, Buddy Isles Jr., Justin Pinno, J.R. Overstreet, Larry Dunn, Carlton Toney, Dykes Maynard and Steve Mendenhall. This event will also feature 2010 Steel Block Bandit Points Champion, Walker Arthur.
