7th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial (STM) Returns to Carolina Speedway
Gastonia, North Carolina – The prestigious Skyler Trull Memorial race will make it's second appearance at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC Saturday evening, August 25th. This years Skyler Trull Memorial (STM) will be an unsanctioned $10,000 to win, $500 to start, event. The 7th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial promises to be the largest event ever held at the 4/10 clay oval. The STM Committee will once again make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of at least $5000. Local race fans have already raised an additional $1500 for both the Make-A-Wish Foundation and race lap leaders. The STM is a one day event. Grandstands $20 Pits $30. Children 10 and under in Free. Pit Gate opens at 3 PM. Grandstands open at 4 PM. Hot laps promptly at 7 PM. Fans who wear the 2007 Skyler Trull Memorial T-shirt through the Grandstand gate will receive $2.00 off the price of admission.
Skyler was a special little girl who's family is deeply involved in dirt racing. When Skyler lost her battle with Leukemia on March 14th, 2000 she was only 5 years old. Her family decided a memorial race in her honor would be a fitting tribute to the bright eyed red head. The family went to work taking donations from fans and businesses to make up the purse. The first STM was a $1200 six car dash. Today the Skyler Trull Memorial is one of the Southeast's most popular Annual Super Late Model races.
This years STM feature a 57 lap $10,000 to win main event. Race fans will get to see these 750 hp "mudslingers" qualify to lock in the top 6 starters. Heat races will then set positions 7-22. Two STM provisionals will complete the twenty-four car starting field. Provisionals will be awarded to the fastest qualifier who did not transfer through preliminary action, and the highest finisher of last year's STM who has yet to transfer. Support classes include Crate Late Models, Renegades, and 4 cylinders. The Skyler Trull Memorial Committee will again present their Annual Make A Wish donation.
Carolina Speedway is eager to host the nations top racing stars. Defending Champion Chris "Smokey" Madden, along with two-time Champ Ricky Weeks are prepared to do battle with some of the nation's top late model stars. Stars such as "The Rocket'' Ricky Elliott, Doug Horton, former race winner Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, and Jeff Smith have all confirmed to attending.
