Speedway. The $2,000 to win event atthe historic Lancaster (SC) Speedway is a sanctionedrace for both the Southern and Mid-East regions of theFASTRAK Racing Series.Wednesday night’s event at Antioch Speedway saw JohnLlewellen of Knoxville, Tennessee take the checkeredflag, besting the field of twenty-seven cars gatheredfor the 4th of July special event. Llewellen, knownas 'The Wildcat' took the lead after Timbo Mangum hadcontrolled the field until late in the event when heencountered mechanical woes. Mangum will return witha vengence on Saturday at his home track when his hugefan following, known in southeastern racing circles as'Timbo Nation' will be on hand to route their hometownhero on.A full slate of racing will accompany the FASTRAKdrivers in their GM Performance powered late models asthey go head-to-head for $2,000 to win and valuablepoints in their year-long championship battle.The exciting half-mile track in Lancaster, SC has morethan half a century history of racing and is set forthe competitive division, including a star-studdedfield of veterans as well as the Young Gun racersentered in the event. In National action on the 4th of July it was veteranDick Barton scoring a $5,000 win at Mercer RacewayPark in Pennsylvania.Several recent changes have taken place in the formatat FASTRAK Racing Series events pertaining toqualifying procedures. Competitors are given two lapsin time-trial qualifications with the top-twelvequalifiers locked into the feature grid. Driversqualifying thirteenth back are gridded into alast-chance consolation races with the finisherstransferring to the main event from the B-mains.Depending on the event car count, the series will holdeither two or three B-Mains. In events where there aretwo consolation qualifiers, the top-six finishers willtransfer; while events having three consi races willtransfer the top-four finishers in each.
