Erwin Breaks through at County Line Raceway
Elm City N.C. May 21 – Russell Erwin got a shot at redemption Saturday night and wasted no time cashing in as he led wire to wire to win the 25-lap main event as the Open Wheel Modified Division powered by Rapid Red Racing Supply invaded County Line Raceway for the 4th time this season. A stellar field of 21 Open Wheel Modifieds put on a great show for the County Line Raceway fans.
Erwin who pilots the #22 Shaw by Erwin Chassis has been very competitive in each outing at County Line Raceway only to come up short. On this night Erwin would not be denied. Despite several challenges from the #99 of Ricky Boahn, Erwin continued to stretch his lead during the feature using the high side around 1 and 2 and the bottom of 3 and 4.
The first caution flew for a spin in turn 4 involving the 5th place contender Tanner Rumberg. On the restart, Erwin again took command and set a torrid pace while several other drivers were charging their way into contention.
The caution flew for the second time as Virginia’s Brandi Breeden found the turn two wall and suffered right front damage.
The field again took the green, but this time, Erwin was too fast for anybody to handle and raced uncontested the rest of the way to record his first win at County Line Raceway as he pocketed a cool $1,200.00 first place prize! With his victory, Erwin closed to within 13 points of our point’s leader, Parkton, North Carolina’s Chris Parker. Parker had another strong showing bringing the #48 home in 3rd.
Boahn hung on for the runner-up paycheck and also closed in on the top two in points as only 26 points separates the top 3., Kyle Strickler made an impressive run up to fourth passing some very good cars. Bret Hamilton wound up fifth. Sixth through tenth, respectively, went to Dan Arnold, Taylor Cook, Gary Conner, Derrick Francis and Nick Hoffman.
County Line Raceway has held five Open Wheel Modified events with 5 different winners!
We welcome back the Modifieds on June 18th for a regular points event.
